MoneyGram Foundation Supports Children’s Education in India
Grant awarded to Smile Foundation to fund the Education Center in Hyderabad

MUMBAI, INDIA (August 27, 2017) — MoneyGram, a global provider of innovative money transfer services, hosted an event in Mumbai to mark a grant to Smile Foundation for $36,000 to support the Education Center in Hyderabad. Thanks to the MoneyGram Foundation’s support, the Center will serve 200 school age under privileged children, providing them with educational and extracurricular activities.

“Education is an important step towards a better life and brighter future. We are proud to support the work of an extraordinary organization that has already changed the lives of over 400,000 children across India. This grant will go towards ensuring that children in India are not left behind,” said Sheshagiri Malliah, MoneyGram’s head of India and sub-continent, at an event in Mumbai.

Smile Foundation operates 120 Education Centers in 21 states of India, for the benefit of over 21,346 children from semi-urban areas. The main goal of these unique centers is to include unprivileged children into the formal education system. The centers not only provide curriculum based learning opportunities but also organize beyond classroom activities to increase awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behavior and understanding one's rights.

“The partnership with MoneyGram will add more strength to the cause of extending quality education and a brighter future for the underprivileged children. A country cannot progress without its children being educated. We are humbled to be associated with MoneyGram” said Santanu Mishra, Co-Founder and Executive Trustee at Smile Foundation.
