Frequently Asked Questions
What is the mission of the foundation?
The MoneyGram Foundation believes a solid education - and even access to basic school supplies -- is at the heart of better economic opportunities, healthier families, and individual freedom and empowerment. That's why our mission is to ensure all children around the world gain better access to educational facilities and learning resources. The MoneyGram Foundation is also committed to providing immediate relief to communities affected by disaster on a global scale.
Why should I give to the foundation?
Your contribution directly impacts communities and families seeking to provide a better education for their children. Dollar for dollar, every penny contributed transforms lives. Whether benefiting a community whose school was ruined by natural disaster, granting one more year of education for a student (resulting in an average 10 percent salary increase), or helping decrease illiteracy, every contribution goes toward inspiring minds and improving lives.
Who is eligible to participate?
Grant-seeking organizations are eligible for funding consideration if they meet the following requirements:
- Organizations must serve the community without discrimination on the basis of age, color, citizenship, disability, disabled veteran status, gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, military service or status.
- Organizations must also qualify as tax-exempt public charities. The MoneyGram Foundation will obtain sufficient documentation from the organization to establish U.S. tax-exempt status or its international equivalent.
The MoneyGram Foundation does not provide funding for individuals, political causes, cultural or arts awareness, athletic or sports programs, or religious organizations, unless the particular program will benefit a large portion of a community without regard to religious or political affiliation and serve our core focus of academic education for children.
